It's been 22 years now. So long time.
January 4, 1986.
Hard to believe but at the same time it was a lifetime ago. It was Christmas holiday from school. I had just turned 13 years old.
Not much happening.
Life was carefree and I was still discovering music and that kept me busy day and night.
January 4, 1996.
12 years since the King's Call, 10 years anniversary at the Point in Dublin. 1996. The year everything changed, the year when all Lizzy-fans united and we didn't hide thinking we were alone. 10 years of sorrow made us stand tall and get ready to stand up for Phil - not only to ourselves but to the world. To all of those out there who refused to focus on anything but the drugs. Who forgot the music. The lyrics.
The poet Philip Lynott I love so much, was drowning in all this bad publicity made by critics who just didn't get the music. Who probably heard "Whisky In The Jar" or "The Boys Are Back In Town" and just didn't give a shit about anything else.
I made a promise returning to the Vibe in Dublin in 2006 but I didn't.
Now. I have spent some time this Christmas and New Year watching a compliation called "Thin Lizzy Rare Vides"; a wonderful (Swedish, I am quite sure) Lizzy-fan who has made her/his VHS-tapes into a dvd collection. I can only imagine the time it's taken this person to do it. Most of the stuff I have seen already or even have it - but it's all on VHS and I don't even have a video recorder installed! So THANK YOU - who ever you are - for making them available again! Many memories from the past has come back.
The night at the Point in 1996 was magic, even more magic was the party afterwards, thinking back. Everyone was there. Phils ex-wife Caroline and his daughters - side by side with Philomena. It was GRAND.
Only, Phil was missing.
a song for while I am away...
These words I wrote, play and sing to you
Do not convey the love I brought and bring to you
For this is a song for while I'm away
To say all the things I'd love to say
You are my life, my everything, you're all I have
You are my hopes, my dreams, my world come true
You're all I have
Please heed me now these words I have to say
Now I'm headed for the border
You see this song it ends right at the start
I swore when I was younger
No one would win my heart
And far away hills look greener still
But soon they'll all slip away
It's then I'll be returning
And I'll be coming home to stay
You are my life, my everything, you're all I have
You are my hopes, my dreams, my world come true
You're all I have
Please heed me now these words I have to say
